If there is time and if it fits into the schedule, Lilian and I would be glad to talk about what we have seen in early childhood classrooms that use the Project Approach, as the children planned, designed, and constructed models of such things as a car and a combine. Children's use of observational sketches of such "objects" as locomotives might be of interest, too… But primarily, we think we have much to learn from what Purdue colleagues have been doing.

Here are the urls to 2 of the Project Approach reports mentioned above. Note that in the Katrina project, preschool age children whose lives were directly affected by the hurricane worked on such problems as how to construct a levee with accessible materials, and how to make structures that could not be blown down in a strong wind.
